# Artifact guide
Designed for both ends of the aquatic spectrum, be ye dolphin or whale

## What are Artifacts
Artifacts are grindable character customization features. The artifact is always equipped, and currently you do not have to choose which to use, as there is only one. Artifacts are broken up into 2 customizable features to grind that yield passive bonuses, as well as 2 ways to get materials to level the former 2 features.

## How to Get Materials for The Artifact
Artifacts require 3 Materials to level:

- Artifact Energy
  - Artifact Energy comes from spending gold (see point 3), as well as dismantling _any_ type of purple/epic gear. The higher the level grade of the piece, the more energy it gives.
  - Dolphin advice: Simply acquire this via crafting and 鈥渇urnacing鈥 (via the Mana Furnace tab) any purples/epics that you find in the wild. Mystica and your 8 weekly raids are great source for this
  - Whale advice: Do the dolphin advice, as well as max out the gold spins daily (Gold spinning is done in the 鈥淎rtifact Energy鈥 tab). The crystal spins do not share the same max amount as the gold spins do, but are very expensive, and I suggest use your crystal elsewhere
- Artifact Essence
  - Artifact Essence only comes from 鈥淔urnacing鈥/Dismantling divine and legendary equipment (that has been identified!). Legendary equipment is guaranteed to drop one. Divine gear has a 25% chance to drop one when furnaced
  - Dolphin advice: only furnace legendaries that you have extra of, or are for another class and not selling well. Never dismantle divine gear as divine essences are hard to come by.
  - Whale advice: dismantle via the furnace any legendary you can get cheaply. Never dismantle divine gear, as the divine essence is harder to come by
- Gold
  - Gold is used in randomly obtain artifact energy, at ~17k gold per pull
  - Dolphin Advice: Never do this, rely on furnacing
  - Whale Advice: Do this if you鈥檝e got the gold to burn, there is a daily limit, which should be hit daily if you want to max as soon as possible

## How do I level the Artifact?
Artifacts stat bonuses are split into two sections: Traits and Forging Level.

### Traits
Traits are basically a 鈥渞andomized path to buff your character with stats and skill effect procs鈥.  You use Artifact Energy and Essence to level up one bubble in each tier of the artifact, from top to bottom. To open up another bubble, simply level up your last bubble to the required level, and then a connecting bubble at random will be opened up for you to level. The ideal (based on my opinion, YMMV) setup for the Torannis Artifact is:

- T1: HP (middle bubble top)
- T2: Single Target Damage Proc (right bubble 2nd row)
- T3: Attack (middle bubble 3rd row)
- T4: Crit Damage Proc (right bubble 4th row)
- T5: Damage and Healing Proc

Since the opening of the bubbles in each tier is  at random, you may be leveling up your artifact traits and go down a path you do not like. As such, you can 鈥渞emodel鈥 your artifact, which returns 100% of the materials used (both artifact energy and essences) to you, for a fee of 30,000 gold and 3000 Artifact Energy.

- Dolphin Advice: I would first unlock all tiers without doing any remodeling. Your goal is to simply get the Crit Damage Proc Tier (4), as well as the Attack Tier (3). Everything else outside of that is less important.
- Whale Advice: Aim for the setup provided above, and remodel till you don鈥檛 stray from the path. Spend all the gold to get the essence necessary to remodel till a suitable path shows itself. You can substitute the T2 for either one, as long as you land T3 Attack

### Artifact Forging
Forging level is a character feature that allows you to do two things simultaneously: raise your primary stats (Str/Agi/Int/Vit) as well as provide certain bonuses for getting over a certain amount of primary stat gained. For example, you gain 200 HP if your forging stats hit 20 Vitality.

#### How To Forge
Forging is a random roll of the dice for each of the primary stats, to see if the value should go up (good) or down (bad). Like reforging equipment, reforging your Artifact Forge Stats can be discarded if you don't like the outcome, or kept if you do. Reforging the primary stats requires either Artifact Energy, or Gold. The forging outcome for primary stats works in a cycle of 5. The first 4 reforges are completely random, while the 5th reforge guarantees at least +0 stat or higher from the primary stats.

- Dolphin Advice: Do not spend gold on this unless you have it to burn (unlikely). Spend artifact energy you get from furnacing here instead!
- Whale Advice: Use strictly gold to level your forging stats. Artifact energy should be used on traits instead.
- Both Advice: Always reforge in sets of 5, and always take any roll that nets you a + increase in stat overall.
  - Example: you do your 3rd reforge, and get -2 Vitality, -3 Str, +4 Spirit. This is net -1, so you discard this reforge
  - Example: you do your 4th reforge, and get -2 Vitality, -8 Str, +15 Spirit. This is a net +5, so you save this reforge.
  - For any 5th roll you can always keep, as it will either be +0s for all 3, or always positive for any of the stats.

### General Notes About Artifact Forging:
- Forging is easily the most expensive part of artifacts in terms of gold/energy. I spent tens of millions of gold in the matter of an hour, and am not finished. The main draw for whales here is the 4% crit damage.
- Forging Primary stats are capped by your forging level. Your forging level goes up every time you reforge, whether you choose to keep or discard the result. It is very possible to hit the cap and need to level up your forging level, before you can see more stat gains.

## Overall Advice
- Dolphins: This mechanic can be progressed through completely without changing how you work on other parts of your character (like stars, inscriptions etc.) because it utilizes a resource that didn鈥檛 have a function before: dropped gear that you discarded and dismantled. If you think of it in this way, it鈥檚 very f2p friendly, just take your time with it, and make sure to do your team raids and daily raids for that purple equipment!

- Whales: There is no ocean too big for you. This mechanic can be burned through daily with copious amounts of gold (I wouldn鈥檛 recommend using crystal, save that for followers/Fashion).
